Dosage | Fumaderm®

Dosage

The exact dosage of Fumaderm® should be discussed with a dermatologist, as he or she can best assess how severely the patient is affected by psoriasis and what dosage is therefore appropriate. It may be necessary to increase the dosage of Fumaderm® for a short period of time during an acute episode, after consultation with the treating physician. When taking Fumaderm® for the first time, it is also important that the patient slowly gets used to the medication.

After taking an initial dose, the dosage of Fumaderm® can be adjusted according to the patient’s needs. You will find further treatment options in our main article on psoriasis. In general, most patients take Fumaderm® for three weeks initially.

During this time, patients can get used to the side effects and the body levels off. The dose is then increased. For example, in the first week, after sufficient intake of the initial dose, the patient takes only one tablet of Fumaderm® per day.

In the second week, the patient takes two tablets, one tablet in the morning and one tablet in the evening. In the third week, the patient can now take one tablet each in the morning, at noon and in the evening, for a total of three tablets per day. In this way, the dose can be adjusted on a weekly basis.

This schedule of increases is very important to allow the patient’s body to slowly get used to Fumaderm®. The maximum dose of Fumaderm® is two tablets three times a day, for a total of six tablets per day. It is important to note, however, that not every patient needs to take these six tablets per day, but that this maximum dose is mainly intended for a phase of acute attacks.

You can find more information about therapy during a psoriatic relapse here: Therapy of Psoriasis. It is also important to know that the treatment success of Fumaderm® can only be seen from the 4th-6th week. It is very important that the treatment is not simply stopped, but that the patient waits until the drug takes effect. The exact dosage should always be discussed with the treating physician. It should be high enough so that the patient undergoing Fumaderm® therapy no longer shows any symptoms of psoriasis and low enough so that the side effects are minimal and tolerable for the patient.
