Dosage | Helicobacter pylori eradication

Dosage

The dosage of eradication therapy is the same for all three therapy regimens. The prescribed medication should be taken in the morning and in the evening. The guidelines recommend that the drugs be taken before meals.

Depending on the therapy scheme, different active ingredients are used in the therapy. However, they all have in common that one tablet should be taken in the evening and one in the morning. This dosage of one tablet in the morning and in the evening does not change even in second-line therapy.

Side effects

The eradication therapy includes many antibiotics, which often lead to undesirable side effects, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. According to guidelines, the rate of patients with side effects is about 10-15%. Most of these side effects are diarrhea due to the antibiotics.

Occasionally, however, nausea, disturbed taste, headaches and skin irritations can also occur. In addition, the administration of many antibiotics can cause the bacteria to develop resistance. This means that they can change in such a way that they can no longer be rendered harmless by the antibiotic.

These resistances can be passed on so that the bacteria become resistant to many different antibiotics over many years. This would have dire consequences, since over time the effective antibiotics would run out and no effective therapy could be carried out. In order to prevent this, the bacteria can be tested before the therapy to determine whether they are resistant to it or not.
