The following physical symptoms and complaints may indicate Down syndrome (trisomy 21):
- Rounded face
- General reduction in the size of the upper limbs (especially hands and fingers)
- Pronounced furrow between the first and second toes.
- Restricted muscle tone
- Myasthenia (muscle weakness)
- Smaller and almond-shaped eyes
- Smaller mouth, nose and head
- Macroglossia (enlargement of the tongue).
- So-called brushfield spots, white spots of the iris (pigment peculiarities of the iris).
- Shortened head and neck
- Slowed maturation of the locomotor system
- Tongue protrusion (tongue forward displacement)
The following psychological symptoms and complaints may indicate Down syndrome (trisomy 21):
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Impairment of judgment
- Depression
- Emotional overreactions
- Learning impairment
- Slowed language development
