Drinking bottle | Checklist for school enrolment – What does my child need to start school

Drinking bottle

Upon entry into the school, most parents are responsible for the children’s meals. A healthy diet also includes sufficient fluid intake, and to ensure this, drinking is taken to school. Drinking bottles in a variety of forms are used to transport the fluid.

A suitable drinking bottle for a primary school child should not have too large a capacity so that the bottle takes up as little space as possible in the school bag and is not too heavy. In addition, when buying a water bottle for the child, care should be taken to ensure that the bottle can be easily cleaned from the inside. The bottles should either have a drinking opening that is as large as possible or they have a small drinking opening and allow the lid to be unscrewed and thus also have a large opening.

The bottles with the small opening for unscrewing have the advantage that children with their small mouths can drink from them better without spilling or swallowing water. Soft plastic is not suitable as drinking bottle material, as it is too unstable and too short-lived. Furthermore, a bottle made of glass is also unsuitable for primary school children, as they are very fragile, represent a risk of injury and are very heavy. The bottle should be made of a light yet stable material, such as hard plastic, and should allow the filling of warm drinks, as parents like to give their children warmed water or lukewarm tea to take to school in winter.
