Drugs for a tapeworm

There are different forms of tapeworm infection. Depending on the animal in which the patient has been infected, there are also different medications for the gastrointestinal diseases. In the case of a porcine tapeworm infection, medicines against worms are used.

These drugs against gastrointestinal diseases are called antihelmintics (worming drugs). In the case of the pig tapeworm, the drugs niclosamide or praziquantel are used. In the case of a bovine tapeworm infection, however, antihelmintics are also used, usually including niclosamide.

In some cases, however, praziquantel or mebendazole may also be used as drugs for gastrointestinal disorders. Fox or dog tapeworms often require surgery to remove the worms. However, there is also the possibility to take medication against the gastrointestinal disease.

Mebendazole or albendazole are particularly suitable here, as these ensure that the worm cannot grow and multiply any further. With the fish tapeworm (Diphyllobothrium latum), there are also drugs against the gastrointestinal disease. Praziquantel or niclosamide are usually taken in the form of tablets, as these are anti-worm drugs. In the case of an infection with the dwarf tapeworm (Hymenolepis nana), niclosamide or alternatively praziquantel can be used as medication against gastrointestinal disease. In most cases, however, patients do not need medication against the gastrointestinal disease despite the infection because the worms disappear on their own after a while as long as the patient pays attention to sufficient hygienic standards, such as washing hands etc.

Medicines for appendicitis

Appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the appendix, usually accompanied by severe pain and vomiting. Usually no medication is used to treat the gastrointestinal disease, but the patient is operated directly. In some rare cases, however, it may be useful to treat the inflammation with antibiotics.

Alleviation of complaints

Drugs for gastrointestinal diseases should alleviate symptoms and help the patient to make the disease more bearable. In addition, the drugs should ensure that the patient recovers faster and can once again actively participate in life. There are several ways to alleviate the symptoms of gastrointestinal diseases using drugs for gastrointestinal disorders.

Particularly common complaints are nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, which can occur during a gastrointestinal disease. There are various medications for gastrointestinal diseases that combat symptoms and thus make it easier for the patient to get well. One of these is the medication for nausea (antiemetics). These drugs include many groups of active ingredients, for example aprepitant, betahistine, cinnarizine, dimenhydrina, domperidone, granisetron, metoclopramide, ondansetron, scopolamine and many others.

Other medications for gastrointestinal diseases that also effectively combat symptoms are drugs for vomiting. The above mentioned antiemetics also help here, but it is also very important that the patient compensates for the lost fluid and the lost food and electrolytes by taking soups and the like. Another common symptom is diarrhea during gastrointestinal disease.

To alleviate these symptoms with medication for gastrointestinal disorders, it helps to take medication such as Iberogast®, Omep® Hexal or Loperamid. In addition, it is also very important that the lost water and electrolytes are compensated so that the patient can recover faster.
