Drugs
Drugs are used for a rotator cuff rupture, especially in the acute phase of the injury and after surgery. The drugs of choice are mainly pain and anti-inflammatory drugs. As a rule, painkillers from the group of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are used, which have both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Well-known representatives of this group are the active ingredients ibuprofen or diclofenac, which can be used both in tablet or suppository form and topically in the form of an ointment or gel. For more severe pain, the use of mildly to more potent opioids may also be considered. This group includes tramadol, tilidine or morphine.
If an operation has been performed, antibiotics can also be administered for a short time to prevent bacterial infection. As a rule, an attempt is made to reduce the dose of the medication over time so that the patient can go without medication as soon as possible.
