Dry Eye Syndrome (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca): Prevention

Behavioral risk factors

  • Diet
    • Micronutrient deficiency (vital substances) – see Prevention with micronutrients.
  • Consumption of stimulants
    • Alcohol (tear film break-up time↓ (beak up time, BUT), tear film osmolarity↑).
    • Tobacco (passive smoking)
  • Wearing contact lenses
  • Working at the computer screen (screen work)

Environmental pollution – intoxications (poisonings)
