Dry Skin

In Germany, 20 to 35 percent of all people suffer from dry skin. The complaints range from a slight feeling of tension, flaky, sensitive or cracked skin to redness and itching. It is important to take preventive measures in good time so that the skin can perform its tasks optimally. Healthy skin not only represents the largest organ of the human body, it also performs a variety of functions.

Functions of the skin

Among the most important functions that our skin performs are:

  • Protection from mechanical, chemical or physical injury
  • Metabolic and storage function
  • Absorption and excretion function
  • Sensory organ

The dry skin can be due to heredity or acquired. It can be a symptom of a skin disease , for example, atopic dermatitis or an internal disease, for example, kidney disease or diabetes.

External influences that can lead to dry skin:

  • Cold and dry heating air
  • Frequent or intensive showering and bathing
  • Too low humidity
  • Ultraviolet radiation
  • Occupational dry skin, for example, hairdressers.

Dry skin is characterized by both a lack of moisture and a lack of fat. Therefore, for daytime care, a slightly greasy moisturizer is recommended, and in the evening, a greasy night cream.

To be able to solve each skin problem individually, there are different care series in your pharmacy, because dry skin needs both protection and targeted care.

Here are some more tips for healthy skin:

  • You should not do without a daily shower, even if you have dry skin, to remove horny skin flakes and sweat residues. However, avoid too hot or even long showers.
  • Use intensively refatting preparations.
  • Instead of alkaline soap, take so-called syndets. They spare the acid mantle of the skin.
  • Avoid intensive sunbathing, because otherwise the skin dries out additionally.
  • Your care and cleaning series should be without the addition of perfume and additives.
  • Always use the same care series.
