Dry skin on the baby’s face

Dry skin on the face is very common in babies. Babies’ skin is much thinner and softer than that of teenagers or adults. The upper layer of the facial skin is not yet fully developed and therefore not as resistant.

It still has many gaps and the protective film is not fully formed, so that the moisture cannot be properly bound and is lost. Therefore, the facial skin dries out quickly and appears brittle. In addition, baby skin lacks sufficient protection because the glands that form the fat for the protective layer of the skin are not yet working sufficiently. Therefore, as with adults, adequate skin care is essential for babies.

Dry skin after showering

Frequent showers or long baths can make the skin on the face very brittle and dry out. Hot water attacks the surface of the skin and damages it. Frequent stays in swimming pools especially attack the skin, because the salt water withdraws a lot of water from the facial skin and thus it lacks the nourishing moisture from the inside.

Therefore, facial care with lukewarm water is quite sufficient. When choosing cleansing lotions, one should use products that are not only caring but also moisturizing and replenishing. Frequent showering and bathing removes important lipids from the skin on the face, which play a major role in protecting the skin and making it supple. Therefore, after extensive showering, you should protect the facial skin from drying out by applying a cream and use a refatting cream that renews and strengthens the skin’s protective oily film.
