Dulcolax® in combination with alcohol

There are some medications for which the simultaneous intake of alcohol can lead to side effects or interactions. No such interaction is known to occur when taking Dulcolax® or a generic drug with the same active ingredient. However, since the consumption of excessive alcohol can lead to undesirable consequences of bowel activity and also to a loss of electrolytes, we advise against the intake of a large amount of alcohol in combination with Dulcolax®.

Dulcolax® during pregnancy

There is insufficient study data to allow an assessment of the safety of Dulcolax® in pregnancy. For this reason, pregnant women should only take Dulcolax® in special cases and never without consulting their doctor. Since no specific side effects have been observed to date when taking Dulcolax® by pregnant women, the likelihood of harm to mother or child from taking the drug is very small.

Dulcolax® in the nursing period

While digestive problems are relatively common during breastfeeding, for a long time it was not clear whether Dulcolax® could be taken during this period. Recent studies have shown that Dulcolax® does not pass into breast milk and can therefore be used without hesitation in nursing women.

Dulcolax® for children

When children have digestive problems, parents often ask themselves which medicines can be used without any problems. Dulcolax® is available in various dosage forms and dosages. Depending on the age of the child concerned, constipation can be treated with Dulcolax®.

In general, children under 2 years of age are not recommended to take the drug. The treating physician or pharmacy staff can best provide information about the individual dosage and dosage form.
