Duration of a cervical spine blockage

The duration of a cervical blockage varies greatly. The strongest symptoms are felt within the first days after the development of a cervical spine blockade, because the restriction of movement is the strongest and the muscle tone is also very high. With direct treatments the symptoms can be improved quickly, but do not disappear completely.

Even if the blockade can be released directly, an increased muscle tone is usually left behind, which can be improved by heat and massage techniques. If the blockage can only be released after several days, the regeneration time is all the longer, because the tonus becomes a little stronger every day to protect the tissue. If a direct therapy is not possible, the patient should try to positively influence the symptoms of a cervical spinal blockage by means of a lot of heat therapy and careful self-mobilization. Likewise, a careful handling in everyday life is necessary, because a constant raising of the shoulders has a negative influence on the shoulder-neck area and can cause frequent muscle tensions up to cervical spinal blockades.

Taping for a cervical spinal blockage

Taping can be used as an additional measure for a cervical blockage in addition to manual therapeutic techniques and heat therapy. The short neck musculature and the shoulder lifter muscle should be taken into consideration. In the case of a cervical spine blockage, there is usually increased muscle tension in this area and can be positively influenced by taping.

The taping ensures that the upper layer of skin is lifted off and thus blood circulation can take place, which is conducive to the release of tension. The standard tape is applied at the level of the transition between the cervical spine and the thoracic spine and is taped to the hairline as the head is bent to the right and left of the spine. From the point of attachment to the hair, a tape strip can be pulled to the right and left side of the shoulder roof during rotation and lateral inclination of the head to the opposite side. The cervical spine is well protected by this tape.More information on this topic can be found in the article Kinesiotape
