DURATION of swelling of lymph nodes in the neck
How long a lymph node swelling lasts cannot be answered in a generalized way and always depends on the cause. If it occurs in the context of an inflammation, the swelling of the lymph nodes should also decrease with healing. If necessary, this can be delayed by a few days or weeks.
If the swelling of the lymph nodes does not decrease or even increases, a medical examination should be performed. Occasionally, lymph nodes can also calcify after an inflammation and remain permanently palpable. This is usually not dangerous.
PROPHYLES
Due to the numerous causes of lymph node swelling in the neck, prophylaxis is difficult to achieve. However, it is important at any age to ensure that the vaccination is given according to the recommendations of the STIKO, as this can prevent some dangerous diseases and their complications.
Summary
The lymph nodes in the neck serve as filter stations for the tissue fluid from numerous adjacent regions. The lymph nodes in the throat are often affected by swelling, because in diseases of the head (nose, eye, ears, throat) the pathogens are transported there in the tissue fluid. A distinction is made as to whether lymph node swelling occurs as part of a generalized process, i.e. whether other lymph nodes occur in other parts of the body, or whether it is only a local process (here restricted to lymph nodes in the neck).
