Duration of the seizure

A weakness attack usually occurs suddenly with symptoms such as impaired vision, tremors, muscle twitching, palpitations and nausea and passes fairly quickly. For this reason, recurrent attacks of weakness or even a long-lasting weakness should be urgently clarified by a doctor. In this way, a possible underlying disease can be quickly detected and acted upon if necessary, and possible risks can be prevented.

Prognosis in case of weakness

The prognosis of a relapse depends on the cause of the relapse. If the attack of weakness is based on temporary, severe physical exhaustion or a short-term emotionally very strenuous strain, the symptoms will subside with sufficient rest and a healthy lifestyle and the prognosis is good. However, if the attack of weakness is an expression of another underlying disease such as a heart failure, metabolic disorder or even an underlying mental illness, the prognosis depends on the underlying disease.

When should you see a doctor?

If the symptoms do not only refer to general exhaustion, if these exhaustion states persist over a longer period of time, if they occur repeatedly or if the symptoms cannot be explained by one of the simple reasons mentioned above, a doctor should definitely be consulted.

Which doctor treats a weakness attack?

First, you should introduce yourself as a patient to your family doctor and report on your symptoms. The medical treatment and possible referral to other specialists then depends on the possible cause. For example, a “dragged along” flu could be treated with antibiotics, while patients with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases or metabolic diseases would be referred to respective specialists.
