Duration | Pain in the outer wrist

Duration

The duration of pain in the outer wrist varies greatly with the underlying cause. In many cases, there is only irritation of the muscles and tendons, which can be completely healed with temporary rest. With timely and appropriate therapy, the pain often subsides within a few days to weeks.

Advanced complaints or degenerative changes in the tendons and cartilage of the wrist, on the other hand, can cause chronic pain for months and return even after prolonged immobilization. Acute injuries of the wrist structures that require surgical treatment also require a healing phase of several months. A relief phase of several weeks is followed by further weeks of rehabilitation. A complete healing without restrictions of movement after injuries of the wrist or in case of degenerative changes is not always possible despite long lasting treatments.
