Duration

The duration of a burning in the vagina depends directly on the cause. Infections, such as bacterial vaginosis or fungal infections of the vagina can usually be quickly controlled by appropriate therapy. This includes treatment with an antibiotic or a fungicide (antifungal agent).

The burning sensation should then be relieved within a few days. Without treatment, however, the burning sensation can last for weeks. A persistent infection, which for example also affects the internal sexual organs, can last for several months.

The burning sensation that occurs with endometriosis usually affects women for several months or even years until effective treatment is given. However, by removing the endometriosis lesions or suitable drug therapy, the symptoms can be quickly relieved. There are also chronic diseases that lead to a burning sensation in the vagina, such as lichen sclerosus. Even in this case, it is not uncommon for it to develop over a period of years.
