Early stage of nail fungus

It can be difficult to detect nail fungus on the finger in its early stages. The reason for this is the fact that in many cases no or only very weakly developed symptoms appear in the early stages. Nail fungus on the finger can be recognized by the fact that conspicuous white or yellowish deposits form in the area of the nail plate.

However, these may not be visible in the early stages. Often there are only subtle changes in the nail structure at the beginning of the disease. Conspicuous deposits and/or damage to the nail plate are often only visible in an advanced stage of the disease.

How contagious is a nail fungus?

Nail fungus on the finger is a highly infectious disease. The transmission of the causative fungal spores occurs mainly at the beginning of the infection. The reason for this is the fact that none of the typical symptoms often appear in the early stages.

It is precisely for this reason that nail fungus on the finger is so infectious. Since a humid and warm environment stimulates the spread and growth of the fungal spores, a nail fungus infection on the finger is particularly contagious in public bathing facilities, saunas and sports cities. In addition, nail fungus is considered highly infectious for people who suffer from a suppressed immune system. Diabetes patients also have a significantly higher risk of getting infected with nail fungus.
