Early Summer Meningoencephalitis: Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics, and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); computer-assisted cross-sectional imaging method (using magnetic fields, i.e., without X-rays) – especially well suited for changes in the brain and spinal cord: e.g., for differential diagnosis versus herpes simplex encephalitis [TBE: 15% of cases show signal hyperintensities in the area of the thalamus and corpus callosum].
