Echinacea: Applications and Uses

Pale coneflower has positive effects on the immune system. The plant is used supportively for flu-like infections and colds.

Echinacea for colds

These are often manifested by a cold (rhinitis), sore throat, cough, faintness, fever, headache and aching limbs. By taking preparations containing pale coneflower, the symptoms improve, the duration of the illness is shortened, and there is an improvement in the general condition.

Application in folk medicine

In folk medicine, pale coneflower is also used as an immunostimulant and externally for poorly healing superficial wounds.

Homeopathic use of echinacea

In homeopathy, the fresh aerial parts of flowering plants of the genus Echinacea angustifolia are mainly used. These help in febrile infectious diseases, as well as poorly healing wounds and boils.

Ingredients of echinacea

The root of pale coneflower contains polysaccharides, alkylamides such as echinacein and polyacetylenes. In addition, various caffeic acid derivatives such as echinacoside and chicory acid are represented.

Cynarin is also present in narrow-leaved coneflower.

Echinacea: Indication

Indications for echinacea are flu-like infections and colds, respectively.
