Eczema in the genital area of the baby

The most common eczema in the genital area in babies is the so-called diaper dermatitis, especially between the ninth and twelfth month of life. It leads to a red, inflammatory rash in the genital area, on the buttocks and on the folds of the thighs. The eczema can be dry or weeping, sometimes pustules are formed.

This eczema in babies can be infected with a skin fungus or bacteria without proper treatment. Yeast eczema also often occurs in connection with the use of antibiotics and can lead to eczema in the baby‘s intimate area. A bacterial infection can be accompanied by other symptoms such as fever.

Diaper dermatitis is caused by permanent moisture in the genital area, especially if the diaper is not changed in time. Eczema in the intimate area of a baby is first treated by changing the diaper regularly. The skin should be kept dry and clean.

Fresh air and longer periods without a diaper also accelerate the healing of eczema. We also have the following articles for you on the subject of eczema: Information to read up on: All topics published so far in the field of dermatology can be found under Dermatology A-Z.
