Eczema on the chin

Eczema on the chin sometimes occurs in small children and babies as a result of saliva flowing over the chin – i.e. when drooling. The problem is often aggravated by the use of a pacifier. Eczema is sometimes very resistant to therapy and remains for a long time.

The remedy is often oily creams that prevent saliva from reaching the irritated skin. Furthermore, the addition of antimycotics and antibiotics is also possible here. If the eczema does not recede, a doctor should be consulted in any case to enable an individual treatment of the child.

Eczema in the corner of the mouth of a child

In children, oral eczema is often associated with bacterial infections, such as streptococci or staphylococci. These bacteria can grow well if the corners of the mouth are kept moist for long periods of time. One of the reasons for this is that the child repeatedly licks the corner of the mouth with its tongue.

In the short term, the skin feels better in the corner of the mouth – but in the long term, the skin dries out even more and the symptoms become worse. One way to counteract this is to apply greasy creams to the corner of the mouth – this protects the dried skin of the child and also means that the child will probably lick less through the corner of the mouth. For children with corner of the mouth eczema, neurodermatitis should also be considered as a possible cause. The eczema in the corner of the mouth can be a minimal form of neurodermatitis. Therefore, if the eczema in the corner of the mouth has existed for a longer period of time, this should also be considered, especially if eczema appears in other prominent areas, such as the earlobes or in the finger and toe area.

Then painful reddening can occur quickly, especially at the corners of the mouth which are subject to a lot of stress.

Especially with known preloading, like an existing neurodermatitis, a pregnancy can have a deteriorating effect on the skin. Eczema at the corner of the mouth during pregnancy can also indicate a vitamin deficiency or iron deficiency. Especially during pregnancy our body needs a lot of nutrients, a lack of e.g. vitamin B12 can lead to mouth angle eczema.
