Ehm’s Diving Drops

Products

Ehm’s diver’s drops are not commercially available as a finished drug. However, they can be prepared in a pharmacy.

Production

The solution is prepared with the following substances. It is filled into pipette vials:

Glacial acetic acid 5.0 g
Purified water 10.0 g
Isopropanol 95% 85.0 g

Effects

Dip drops have a disinfecting effect and create an acidic environment that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi.

Fields of application

To prevent inflammation of the external auditory canal when swimming or diving. The drops are also used for treatment.

Dosage

After diving, rinse the ears with lukewarm water. Then put two to four drops in each ear and leave for one to two minutes. The general instructions for administering ear drops should be followed (see there).

Contraindications

Ear drops should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity and tympanic membrane perforation. A complete list of precautions is not available.

Interactions

Drug-drug interactions are not known. Concomitant use of other ear drops is not indicated.
