Endometriosis after a miscarriage | Uterus endoscopy

Endometriosis after a miscarriage

After a miscarriage, uterine endoscopy can be useful. The aim is to find any remaining fruit and placenta and, if necessary, to remove them completely by means of scraping (curettage). This reduces the risk of infection.Hysteroscopy can also be performed for diagnostic purposes in cases of repeated miscarriages, so-called habitual abortions. In this way, possible causes of the tendency to miscarry can be identified and potential obstacles to implantation in the uterine cavity can be found. Ideally, it is possible to remove them in the same procedure if, for example, there are anatomical obstacles.

Duration of a uterine endoscopy

The duration of a uterine endoscopy depends on the underlying indication. If it is only a diagnostic intervention, the examination by an experienced doctor takes about five minutes. If, on the other hand, a scraping is planned, the duration of the procedure is about 15 – 30 minutes.

If ablations (resections) are necessary, the uterus endoscopy may take up to 45 minutes. All the above figures refer to standard cases. In case of complications or anatomical peculiarities, the duration of the procedure may be extended accordingly.

Is this a cash benefit?

The reimbursement of the costs of a hysteroscopy depends largely on the indication of the latter. In the medically justified cases, these are usually health insurance benefits. These include, for example, uterine endoscopies in the context of miscarriages and ablation of myomas or polyps.

However, if the examination is performed for personal motives, as in the case of fertility treatment, the patient may have to bear the costs herself. In general, it is advisable to clarify the question of costs with your health insurance company before the examination.
