Epilating in the genital area – What should be considered?

There are different statements and recommendations about depilation in the genital area. Most manufacturers of epilators do not recommend epilation of the genital area. The genital area has a very sensitive skin and can be irritated very quickly.

Inflammation can occur and, if the epilator is not used properly, injuries can occur. If you still want to epilate the genital area, you should take some precautions to make the epilation as gentle as possible. The skin should be free of fatty residues, cleaned and dry.

Epilation of the genital area is more painful than on other parts of the body. To reduce the pain a little bit, it is also recommended to cool the skin with a cooling element or a cooled towel beforehand. Even after depilation, cooling helps to soothe the genital area and avoid irritation. For a smooth result you should stretch a small area of skin between two fingers and epilate it quickly. If you sweat and the skin gets wet again during the epilation, you should dry it off before you continue epilating. After epilation, the skin must be treated with moisturizing creams such as Bepanthen to prevent irritation.

Epilating in the face

Epilation on the face offers a good opportunity to remove unwanted hairs over a longer period of time. Shaving is not well suited for this, especially for women. But not every epilator is suitable for epilation in the face and especially the sensitive upper lip.

Special epilators for the face, or epilators with special attachments should be used. These attachments are smaller than the body attachments and thus enable more precise work. For epilation on the face, good preparation of the skin is very important, otherwise the result will not be as satisfactory or irritation will occur.

The face should be washed and dried well before application. Heat or cold can help to soothe the skin beforehand and make epilation more pleasant. Whether one prefers heat or rather cold for preparation depends on the individual preference.

A warm camomile steam bath can help to open the pores and make epilation easier. Cooling with a cooling element, on the other hand, reduces redness and irritation after epilation. For facial epilation, it is absolutely necessary to use a special facial attachment of the epilator or a facial epilator.

Only a small area should be epilated at a time. The epilator is then placed on the taut skin at a 90° angle. After the epilation, the facial skin should be cooled.

This is even more important than in other skin regions, because redness becomes directly visible here and is difficult to conceal. Afterwards it is recommended to apply a moisturizing care. However, depilation should not be performed on very sensitive facial skin or acne.
