Epilating ingrown hair

Ingrown hairs can appear after shaving as well as after depilation. After shaving they usually show up faster than after depilation. If ingrown hairs are present, the skin in the affected area must not be depilated again until the ingrown hair has healed.

Otherwise infections and larger inflammations can develop. Ingrown hairs cannot be removed by epilation either, because the epilator cannot grasp them. The ingrown hair is under the surface of the skin, where the small gripping forceps of the epilator cannot reach it. Depilation can therefore only cause irritation or injury to the affected area. High-quality epilators, good preparation of the skin and regular peelings after epilation reduce the probability of hair ingrowth.

Pimples after epilation – What to do?

Epilation is an effective method of cosmetic hair removal that can also be done at home. However, many people shy away from epilation, as it is usually associated with pain and unpleasant pimples. In fact, it is not uncommon for skin irritation and small pimples to appear after epilation.

Especially sensitive skin areas, such as the genital area, are quickly affected by such pimples and redness. There are a few things that you can do before epilation to avoid pimples. Epilators should always be used on clean, oil-free skin.

The best time to do this is after a shower, when the skin has not yet been creamed. Oily skin can cause the epilator not to be able to grip the hairs properly, resulting in pimples. Cooled skin is also easier to epilate and shows fewer irritations or pimples after epilation.

The skin can be pre-cooled with a cooling element, a cooled towel or similar works well, too. Also after epilation there are some things you can do to prevent the appearance of pimples. A well proven trick is to apply baby powder immediately after epilation or shaving.

Moisturizing creams or lotions also prevent pimples and care for the skin. By the way, cooling helps not only before but also after epilation. It also counteracts swelling and redness. Anti-inflammatory skin care products, such as Bepanthen, or ingredients, such as aloe vera, are particularly suitable for care after epilation. If there are still pimples, one should take care not to scratch them or irritate them additionally, as otherwise inflammations can develop.
