Epirubicin

Epirubicin is commercially available as a concentrate for injection/instillation (farmorubicin, generics). It has been approved in many countries since 1993.

Structure and properties

Epirubicin (C27H29NO11, Mr = 543.5 g/mol) is structurally closely related to doxorubicin.

Effects

Epirubicin (ATC L01DB03) is antineoplastic. It is an anthracycline antibiotic, rapidly penetrates the cell, binds to DNA, and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis and cell division via inhibition of DNA topoisomerase II and DNA helicase.
