Erysipelas: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, body weight, body height; furthermore:
    • Inspection (viewing) of skin [due topossible symptoms:
      • Sharply limited strongly pronounced erythema (areal redness of the skin).
      • Flame-shaped extensions
      • Blistering possible (bullous erysipelas); scarring may occur after the blister zone heals, resulting in permanent skin discoloration (hemorrhagic erysipelas; heme = red blood)]]
