Esophageal Cancer: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of esophageal cancer (esophageal cancer).

Family history

  • Does your family have a history of frequent tumors or diseases of the gastrointestinal tract?

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What changes have you noticed?
  • Do you suffer from dysphagia? Can you swallow liquid food better than solid food?
  • Do you have pain behind the breastbone?
  • Have you lost body weight?
  • Do you have any other complaints?
  • How long have these changes existed?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you have a balanced diet?
    • Do you eat a lot of smoked and cured foods and foods high in nitrates/nitrite?
  • Do you like to drink hot beverages?
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
