Euphrasia Eye Drops

Introduction

The Euphrasia eye drops are drops which are made from the medicinal plant Euphrasia (also called “eyebright“). In addition to Euphrasia, the drops contain rose blossom oil (Rosae aetheroleum). The eye drops are produced by the companies “Weleda®” and “Wala®”, for example. These companies produce anthroposophic medical products. They are used to treat watery, irritated and inflamed eyes and have a pain-relieving and healing effect.

Indications for Euphrasia eye drops

Application for conjunctivitis

In conjunctivitis (also known as conjunctivitis in the technical jargon), Euphrasia eye drops promise rapid relief of symptoms. The redness and also the pain of the eye should decrease. If the conjunctivitis is caused by bacteria, an antibiotic may have to be taken, especially if severe conjunctivitis occurs.

In this case, a doctor should be consulted, who may have to determine the bacterial pathogen. However, allergies can also cause inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye. It is advisable to find out what caused the allergy and to avoid this allergen (substance that causes allergy).

Application with a grain of barley

A barleycorn is an inflammation of the eyelid. An abscess often occurs here, which breaks through to the inside or outside. The inflammation is in most cases purulent and painful.

Euphrasia eye drops also help to fight the inflammation of the eyelid in the case of a barleycorn. For this purpose, one drop should be given into the affected eye three to four times a day. In addition, the eyelid should be moistened with the eye drops to increase the effectiveness. If the barley grain does not break open after some time, an eye doctor should be consulted. This opens then the barleycorn by a puncture.

Use of the drops for allergies

An allergy is an immune reaction of the body against actually harmless substances (e.g. food or pollen). Especially in case of an allergy to pollen, an inflammatory reaction of the eyes can occur. In case of an allergic reaction of the eyes, Euphrasia eye drops can be used to alleviate the symptoms.

One or two drops per day should be given into each eye. It is also important to find out what is causing the allergy. Using the eye drops to treat the symptoms is quite helpful, but the cause should also be treated to prevent the allergic reaction from recurring.
