Exercises for left-sided pain

In the case of left-sided pain during inhalation caused by orthopedic causes, appropriate exercises should be tailored to the individual patient. In this way, the patient’s posture and statics can be favorably influenced so that the rib and vertebral joints are not excessively strained. Thoracic stretching by means of a rotational stretching position can be useful to relax the structures and also in cases of lung related pain: To do this, the patient lies on the floor in a supine position, positions the legs and tilts them to the right side so that the knees remain on top of each other and the pelvis turns to the right side.

The arms remain stretched out beside the body, the right arm can pull the left costal arch slightly downwards or simply give a breath-conducting contact, while the left arm is stretched far away from the body, the shoulder remains on the floor, the thorax is stretched. The position is held for several breaths, it serves to deepen breathing, improve blood circulation and ventilation of the lungs and stretches the thorax. For right-sided pain, it can be performed alternatively for the right side.In these articles you will find more exercises:

Pain under the ribs

These articles may also be of interest to you:

  • Pain during inhalation under the ribs can be triggered at the lower costal arch by the attachment of the abdominal muscles. If these are strained or irritated, breathing can cause stretching and thus pain during inhalation.
  • Below the right costal arch there is still the liver, which is fused with the diaphragm and is thus also displaced by the breathing movements. Consequently, liver diseases can cause pain during inhalation.
  • Left-sided diseases of the stomach or spleen should be excluded. If the pain occurs throughout the thoracic cavity below the ribs, it may be caused by inflammation of the lung or the pleura. This must be clarified by a physician.
