Exercises | Physiotherapy for abdominal pain during pregnancy

Exercises

For abdominal pain caused by the stretching of the ligaments, a gentle exercise in the supine position is recommended. The exercise should loosen the pelvic floor and gently massage the abdominal organs through breathing. The legs can also be tilted slowly from right to left in the rhythm of breathing.

During exhalation, the legs are lowered a little to the side so that there is no tension or pain in the lower back. During inhalation, the legs are brought back to the middle, then the same happens to the other side.

  • The legs are tense so that the abdominal wall is loosely relaxed.

The pregnant woman closes her eyes and concentrates on her breathing. The breath flows slowly and deeply, attention is focused on the abdominal wall, which rises and falls. Now the pregnant woman can press the pelvis and the lower back flat against the support during exhalation, so that the physiological hollow back is completely lifted. During inhalation she slowly gives up the movement, the lower back lifts gently off the floor again.

Abdominal pain left/right

If abdominal pain occurs unilaterally at the beginning of a pregnancy, it may be an ectopic pregnancy. An inflammation in the respective fallopian tube occurs, which can lead to pain. Medical assistance should be sought to prevent a dangerous peritonitis.

Ectopic pregnancy can also be accompanied by fever or intermittent bleeding. The child cannot develop in the fallopian tube and the pregnancy is terminated.Abdominal pain in the right upper abdomen should also be clarified, as the pregnancy gesture (unclear pregnancy-related diseases) – HELLP- also manifests itself with right-sided upper abdominal pain. This can lead to liver problems, among other things.

The HELLP-syndrome is a serious disease and must be treated urgently. If there is pain in the right lower abdomen, appendicitis should be excluded. Abdominal pain in the left upper abdomen can be caused by the baby’s kicks in the stomach or spleen and can be severe in the lower abdomen. Appendicitis should also be clarified in case of left lower abdominal pain. The following articles may be of interest to you:
