Exercises to maintain mobility/mobility

The active part of physiotherapy during post-cancer treatment consists mainly of mobility and mobilization exercises, which are intended to help the affected person to be able to live without restrictions again. Some of the exercises used are listed below: 1) Shoulder mobility Sit up straight and upright on a chair. Hold the ends of a rolled up towel behind your back.

One hand up and one hand down, as if you were trying to dry your back. Now slowly do exactly this up and down movement with the towel. After about 20 seconds change arms.

Your hands lie relaxed beside your body. Now raise your right arm above your head and place it behind your head while bending your right leg. Return to the starting position and repeat the whole procedure with the left side.

5 repetitions per side. Are you looking for more coordination exercises? 3) Strengthening of the muscles and coordination Lay down on a comfortable surface on your stomach.

Place your feet on your toes so that your shins do not touch the floor. Extend your arms forward and lift them slightly off the floor, together with your head and chest. Now alternately lift the left and right arm as far as possible.

At the same time, lift the opposite leg as well. Perform even, controlled movements for about 30 seconds. 4) Stability and muscles Stand on your left leg.

Now bend your upper body forward and stretch your hands straight forward. At the same time the right leg is stretched straight backwards. Ideally, the upper body and right leg form a straight line.

Hold this position for 20 seconds and then change sides. 5) Mobilization of the individual joints Stand relaxed and straight. Now stretch and, if possible, rotate fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, torso, hips, knees, ankles, feet and toes one after the other for about 10 seconds each.

Then change the leg. 10 repetitions per side. More exercises from physiotherapy for the hip can be found here.

7) Mobility for legs, hips and back Spread your legs about twice as wide as your shoulders and go into a deep knee bend. Then shift your weight slowly, first to the left, hold for 10 seconds, then to the right, also hold for 10 seconds. Make 3 passes.

8) Neck mobility Stand up straight and upright. Then move your chin towards the breastbone until you feel a slight stretch in the neck. Keep your head lowered and move it slowly towards your left shoulder and from there slowly over to your right shoulder. 3 passes. Depending on the type of cancer and therapy method, there are many more exercises that are performed by the patient in consultation with the doctor and therapist.
