Eye Irritation or Eyelid Irritation: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of eye or eyelid irritation.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Are you exposed to harmful working substances in your profession?

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the irritation/itching existed?
  • Does the irritation/itching affect both eyes?
  • Is there redness of the eye/both eyes?
  • Have you noticed any lacrimation from the eye/both eyes?
  • Do you have pain in the area of the eye/both eyes?
  • Have you noticed any visual disturbances?
  • Do you remember a trigger?
  • Do you use over-the-counter eye drops?
