Fatty Stools (Steatorrhea): Diagnostic Tests

Obligatory medical device diagnostics.

  • Abdominal sonography (ultrasound examination of abdominal organs) – for basic diagnostics.
  • Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen (abdominal CT).

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP; diagnostic method for visualization of the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts) – clarification of benign (benign) or malignant (malignant) bile duct stenoses; visualization of pancreatic ducts to detect caliber irregularities or ductal breaks.
  • Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreaticography (MRCP; diagnostic method for visualization of the biliary and pancreatic ducts).
  • Endosonography (endoscopic ultrasound (EUS); ultrasound examination performed from the inside, i.e., the ultrasound probe is brought into direct contact with the internal surface (for example, the mucosa of the stomach/intestine) by means of an endoscope (optical instrument)) of the pancreas (pancreatic duct)
