Fenugreek: Effect and Side Effects

The mode of action of fenugreek seeds is not yet very well researched. So far, blood sugar-lowering and antidiabetic effects have been demonstrated, which are probably due to the steroid saponins.

In rats, application of the seeds resulted in an increase in appetite.

In addition, the seeds are said to have expectorant, anti-inflammatory, and cardiac and uterine strengthening effects. The seeds are also said to have a beneficial effect on hair growth.

Repeated external use may cause adverse skin reactions such as redness or itching.

Interactions with other remedies and contraindications are currently not known.
