Fever blisters on the tongue

Fever blisters in the mouth are always a serious disease, which lead to considerable impairment of the patients. Infection of the tongue with fever blisters is extremely painful. It is hardly possible to eat.

Speaking is also considerably more difficult. Fortunately, adults are rarely affected by a herpes infection in the mouth. Small children who come into contact with the herpes virus for the first time have a higher risk of the infection spreading in the mouth.

Unfortunately, there is only the possibility of symptomatic therapy with ointments containing a local anesthetic. The course of the disease is self-limiting. Normally the disease heals after 2 weeks without any consequences.

Are fever blisters contagious?

Fever blisters are very contagious. Finally, fever blisters are an infectious disease caused by the Herpes simplex virus. The small blisters are filled with viruses.

The content of the blisters is therefore highly infectious. If the blisters burst, the viruses are released. Therefore it is very important to pay attention to good hygiene.

You should also keep your distance from other people to avoid spreading the virus. Therefore one should refrain from exchanging tenderness for the time of the illness. Although one must say that 95% of the population carries the virus anyway, even if they cannot remember a past infection with fever blisters.

Often one gets infected as a child, or the infection proceeds asymptomatically. The virus then usually lies dormant in the cells until it is reactivated due to an immune deficiency and fever blisters appear. But nevertheless, the content of the fever blisters is very contagious.

One should not puncture the fever blisters under any circumstances. On the one hand, the content of the blisters is highly infectious. The vesicles contain numerous herpes simplex viruses that can only be scattered when pricked and can thus infect other parts of the skin or transmit the virus to other people. On the other hand, a pricking of the blisters always favors a bacterial superinfection.

Then a purulent crust forms on the pricked fever blisters. This often extends the course of the disease. Therefore, it is better to use the usual fever blister ointments or patches for treatment.

Home remedies can also help. In addition, one can also use tea tree oil or homeopathic medicines. Piercing the blisters does not shorten the course of the disease. If you are unlucky, you will only get additional complications such as an accompanying bacterial infection. Therefore it is not recommended to puncture the fever blisters in any case.
