Fit for the Summer: Perseverance

There is another way to trick your inner bodyguard: look for allies to visit the swimming pool, go for a jog or sizzle fish and boil vegetables. Encourage each other, listen to each other – the inner bodyguard has a hard life from this point on.

Find a fitness partner

The best coach can be a friend or a colleague from the sports club. Some prefer to team up with close friends, while others need distance and find personal closeness distracting and a hindrance.

In any case, the following applies: regularly share your successes and setbacks — preferably once a week. Decide on the next steps for the coming week and make a note of them in your diary.

One week later, report back to each other and analyze together how things went. What was good? What was bad? Knowing that you have to report something honestly to someone else will keep you on track. And you’ll meet your partner even when you absolutely don’t feel like inline skating and would love to hang up your shoes.

Hang in there – it’s easier that way

It’s not that hard to get started if you choose a sport you enjoy: swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling or even inline skating are good introductory sports because they put little stress on the joints. Nordic walking (fast walking with poles) is also very suitable. It involves a very low risk of injury and hardly leads to muscle fatigue.

Those who prefer to start right away with jogging or another sport with a higher load intensity should not overdo it. Muscles and joints always need a recovery day to get used to the load. It is optimal to combine sports with different movement patterns. This minimizes the risk of overloading individual muscle groups.

Whichever workout you choose, make sure you can do it outdoors if possible. This additionally lifts your spirits! Healthy living doesn’t have to be strenuous and can even be fun. Of course, this applies not only to physical exercise, but also to healthy eating and mental balance.

Only those who have felt the effects of the lifestyle change on their own body can enjoy it. As soon as a real habituation has taken place, the inner pig dog becomes your friend. It is a creature that gets used to things and, at a certain stage, even helps you to stick to it.
