Foot pain heel

Foot pain in the heel area can have very different causes, such as accidents of varying degrees with bone fractures, ligament ruptures, ligament stretching and non-optimal healing of the same. This causes acute pain. In addition, a heel spur, changes in the shape of the heel bone (Haglund’s heel), overloading of the foot due to long walking on very hard ground or incorrectly chosen footwear can lead to the complaints.Naturally is to be thought also here of a rheumatic illness, which leads beside joint also to inflammatory ligament participation, among other things the Achilles’ tendon.

Bale

The ball of the foot is the connection between the sole of the foot and the big toe and is a very painful area under certain circumstances. Various causes can lead to the pain experience, for example, incorrect weight-bearing when walking, incorrect footwear and, especially mentioned, high-heeled shoes, which lead to a shift of body weight forwards, so that the ball area is subject to a particularly high load. This in itself causes pain.

In addition, incorrect strain and strong mechanical stress also lead to increased callus or callus formation in this area, which in turn can lead to foot pain. If there is a fracture of a tarsal bone in the metatarsal region, pain is also experienced. Also a traversed transverse arch of the foot with resulting ground contact leads to pain in the area of the ball of the foot via callus formation.

Finally, the splayfoot with a hallux valgus formation should be mentioned. In this malpositioning, the big toe tilts outwards, i.e. in the direction of the other toes. The hallux valgus is favored by a wrong choice of shoes, but it also occurs more often in cases of familial stress.

Foot pain on the inside

Irritation or inflammation of the plantar fascia or a heel spur can cause severe pain on the inside of the foot. This pain can be alleviated by appropriate physiotherapy exercises, which can also be performed at home, but must also be done regularly. Another cause can be the so-called “tarsal tunnel syndrome” in individual cases.

In the area of the wrist it is more commonly known to us as carpal tunnel syndrome. Through the tarsal tunnel, which is located behind the inner ankle, nerves and vessels run from the upper part of the foot towards the sole of the foot. This tunnel tends to narrow due to the increase in connective tissue.

As a result, the tibial nerve in particular is pressed and as a result, foot pain occurs in the area of the inner side of the foot. In addition to this, it can also lead to sensations and sensory disturbances. Of course, leg malpositions also lead to a change in the statics of the arch of the foot and thus to pain, especially knock-knees and bow legs.

A hallux valgus can also lead to foot pain in the inner area, as well as arthrosis in the metatarsophalangeal joint (hallux rigidus). In the case of foot pain on the inside, the flat foot also plays an important role. It is caused by a muscle and ligament weakness in the area of the longitudinal arch, which thus flattens.

The resulting pain can be relieved by specific training of the muscles and wearing insoles. There are different causes for the occurrence of foot pain in the outer area of the foot. For example, the ball of the little toe (“tailor’s ball”), a malpositioning of the little toe as a result of a splayfoot, leads to such pain.

Here, the little toe is pressed in the direction of the big toe, so that, as in hallux valgus, the base joint is overloaded, which can then swell. Furthermore, malpositioning of the legs and an unnatural rolling movement of the foot also cause pain. Not to be neglected are irritations or stretching of the entire ligament apparatus, which can also lead to foot pain in the outer area.

There are different treatment options for all these diseases, such as wearing special insoles, physiotherapy or even movement exercises that can be learned. An operation may also be necessary. For clarification a corresponding specialist should be consulted.
