For children | Treatment of corns

For children

The use of drugs containing salicylic acid is generally avoided in children. Since children usually have thinner skin, the softening effect of the drug can cause unpleasant secondary damage. Since corns, which occur in children, are usually small and superficial, softening of the skin change by a warm foot bath is usually sufficient to remove the corn afterwards. Children should consider going to the doctor if corns occur, in order to have a professional therapy carried out and to receive recommendations for the prevention of corns in the future.

Prognosis

The prognosis of a chicken eye is usually very good. It is important to treat the corn quickly as soon as the symptoms occur. This can help to prevent the progression of the disease as well as associated complications. Especially after surgical removal of the corn, strict adherence to the doctor’s instructions is essential for a favorable healing process. Infections at wounds, which are caused by the corium or during the removal, generally have a negative influence on the healing process.

Prophylaxis

A corn eye is usually caused by constant pressure on a skin area that is closely related to a bone. To prevent the development of the disease it is therefore essential to avoid the pressure point. As a rule, poorly fitting shoes are responsible for the pressure sores.

Especially feet, which do not have the usual shape, for example due to a disease, can easily develop pressure points. Even when pressure points can no longer be perceived properly, as is often the case with diabetes mellitus, corns occur comparatively frequently. Buying properly fitting shoes and wearing insoles can help to prevent pressure points and thus the development of a corn.
