Forecast | Acute respiratory failure

Forecast

The lethality of acute respiratory failure depends on overcoming the underlying disease and starting therapy. Pre-existing diseases and chronic alcohol consumption worsen the prognosis. After injuries without upper body involvement, the mortality rate is about 10%, with upper body injuries about 25%.

If acute lung failure (ARDS) is caused by pneumonia, mortality is 50%. In the case of sepsis with multiple organ failure, the mortality rate is even >80%.
