Functionality of contact lenses

Synonyms in a broader sense

Adhesive lenses, adhesive shells, adhesive lenses, glasses engl. : contact lensesIn healthy people, the light rays are refracted by the cornea and lens in such a way that they hit the retina exactly and are therefore seen sharply. Nearsightedness (myopia) means that the point at which an image can be seen sharply lies in front of the retina.

In the case of long-sightedness (hyperopia), it is the other way round, the light rays are refracted in such a way that the image would only be sharp behind the retina. With the help of contact lenses, the refractive power of the eye is then changed according to the existing visual defect so that the incoming light rays are once again seen sharply on the retina. Other visual defects can also be well compensated with contact lenses.

In the case of astigmatism, they are even more suitable and easier to adjust than glasses. Even if the corneal surface is very irregular, a good result and sharp vision can be achieved with hard contact lenses.
