Further therapeutic measures

Splints or bandages are prescribed for immobilization after a torn ligament. In order to support the healing process and to relieve the structures, further measures such as taping or ultrasound treatment can be taken in addition to the active exercises. However, these methods are only a supporting part and should not be regarded as the only treatment, especially for long-term success. To become active is the magic word.

Summary

Our knee is constantly exposed to extreme stress. Because of the upright two-legged walking, the knees have to carry our entire body weight and at the same time be flexible enough to allow movement. An important device for this are our ligaments.

By means of different localizations, they support the stability assurance during different movements. If the structures are now overstrained, injured from the outside or have to withstand chronic malpositioning, an unfortunate movement can cause individual ligaments or combinations with other structures to tear. If the rupture is often irreversible in a conservative way, stability, freedom from pain and a secure range of motion can be restored by means of targeted active exercises.
