Gadobenic Acid

Gadobenic acid is commercially available as a solution for injection (MultiHance). It has been approved in many countries since 2003.

Structure and properties

Gadobenic acid is present in the drug as gadobenate dimeglumine (C36H62GdN5O21, Mr = 1058.1 g/mol) is present. It is a chelate complex of the organic acid BOPTA with the gadolinium ion (Gd3+).

Effects

Gadobenic acid (ATC V08CA08) has paramagnetic properties. It allows contrast enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging.

Indications

As a contrast agent for MRI diagnostics.

Dosage

According to the SmPC. The drug is administered intravenously.

Contraindications

Gadobenic acid is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity. Full precautions can be found in the drug label.
