Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of gastric ulcer (ventriculi ulcer).
Family history
- Is there a history of frequent gastrointestinal diseases in your family?
Social history
- What is your profession?
- Do you have night or shift work?
- Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Do you suffer from pain in the area of the upper abdomen?
- If so, when does this pain occur? After eating or when fasting?
- Do you feel nauseous? Do you have to vomit? If so, what does the vomit look like?
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.
- Do you eat a balanced diet?
- Do you often eat white flour products or sweets?
- Have you unintentionally lost body weight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
- Do you like to drink coffee? If so, how many cups per day?
- Do you drink other or additional caffeinated beverages? If so, how much of each?
- Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
- Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
- Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs (cocaine) and how often per day or per week?

Medication history
- Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (donezepil, galantamine, rivastigmine).
- Aldosterone antagonists (epleronone, spironolactone).
- Analgesics
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), non-steroidal/NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), acemeatcin, diclofenac, etoricoxib, indometacin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, meloxicam, naproxen, phenylbutazone piroxicam); concomitant use of glucocorticoids increases the likelihood of disease by a factor of 15.

- Glucocorticoids (alclometasone, betamethasone valerate, budesonide, fluticasone, halometasone, hydrocortisone, methylprednisolone, mometasone, prednicarbate, prednisone, prednisolone) [especially in combination with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)]
- Immunosuppressants (mycofenolate mofetil).
- Potassium chloride
- Platelet aggregation inhibitors – acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), clopidogrel.
