Spinal canal stenosis of the cervical spine describes a narrowing of the spinal canal in the cervical spine. Stenosis is the technical term for this narrowing. It can occur as a result of injuries to the bony protection, injuries to the intervertebral discs, instability and poor posture or diseases with swelling and cell growth.
Occurring symptoms of spinal stenosis in the cervical spine depend precisely on the affected height and location and occur because vessels are constricted by the lack of space. These can be blood vessels that supply the brain or nerve cords that carry information to and from the arms and hands. Symptoms are therefore dizziness, sensation of discomfort in the upper extremities and weakness in the arms.
