Genital Prolapse: Medical History

Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of genital prolapse.

Family history

  • Is there a frequent occurrence of connective tissue weakness in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Do you have to carry heavy?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you have pain or a feeling of pressure in the abdomen?
    • Do you have a feeling of pressure “down”?
    • If yes, when does the pain/pressure sensation occur?
    • Where exactly is the pain localized?
  • Have you noticed any bleeding from the vagina or urethra?
  • Do you have pain during sexual intercourse?
  • Do you lose water when you laugh, sneeze or cough?
  • Do you have problems with urination? With bowel movements?
  • Do you have a chronic cough?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (urinary tract infections, bronchial asthma with chronic cough, injuries).
