Gentle Alternative to Knee Surgery: Computer-Assisted Healing Water Therapy

Knee problems have become a widespread disease. Millions of people complain of pain in this largest joint of the human body. The number of knee surgeries is constantly increasing – despite questionable successes: according to a survey by the Gmünder Ersatzkasse (GEK), one in two surgery patients is dissatisfied with the results of the procedure. Alternatively, new computer-assisted physiotherapies, combined with pain-relieving healing water treatment open up completely new, gentle and bloodless options for treating signs of wear or age in the knee joint, chronic overuse or accident-related complaints.

Complaints after knee surgery widespread

According to a long-term study by the Gmünder Ersatzkasse (GEK), one in two patients continues to complain of pain and partially restricted mobility after conventional knee surgery – despite the considerable risks that knee surgery usually entails.

Doctors and therapists at the Johannesbad spa in Bad Füssing have therefore developed a gentle alternative to knee surgery in recent years: rehabilitation therapies aimed at stabilizing the entire musculoskeletal system in the knee area. “85 percent of patients report significantly improved mobility and noticeably less discomfort afterwards,” reported the doctors at Johannesbad.

The core of the new therapy is a special 14-day training of the musculature, through which a natural long-term stabilization and relief of the knee is achieved in every phase of movement, in combination with the special sulfur healing water available in Bad Füssing.

Bad Füssing’s legendary healing water: highly effective “medicine” against joint pain.

Bad Füssing is today one of the leading treatment centers for joint problems in Europe, mainly because of its special healing waters. The sodium hydrogen carbonate chloride spring that bubbles out of the earth at 56 degrees in the Lower Bavarian spa has a composition that is unique in Europe, with exceptionally strong pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects for joint diseases.

“Surgical interventions on the knee usually only repair existing damage. Gentle knee rehabilitation, on the other hand, addresses the causes of knee pain. This promises a much more lasting treatment success,” says Holger Dittmann, MD.

Special rehabilitation center

The Johannesbad in Bad Füssing is considered the largest center for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system of acute or chronic knee and joint complaints in Germany. The clinic has 13 therapy pools with more than 4,500 square meters of water surface, as well as the only thermal mineral wave pool in southern Germany. Johannesbad is also the only private spa clinic in the Federal Republic with its own thermal spring.
