Giardiasis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of giardiasis.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Have you been abroad recently? If so, where exactly?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you have diarrhea?
  • How long does the diarrhea last?
  • What does the bowel movement look like?
  • Is it bloody? slimy?
  • Have you noticed any symptoms such as nausea, vomiting?
  • Have you lost any weight? If so, how much in what time?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, salads, even unwashed?
  • Do you maintain personal hygiene (hand, toilet hygiene)?

Self history incl. medication history.
