Ginseng: Effect and Side Effects

Ginseng increases the activity of the central nervous system via stimulation of the release of excitatory transmitter substances such as norepinephrine and serotonin. This leads, among other things, to an increase in concentration and attention. The root further stimulates the cells of the immune system, which is why there is an increase in resilience and increased resistance to stress.

Ginseng: Effect on the body

After noxious agents such as X-ray irradiation, a more rapid increase in the number of blood platelets (thrombocytes) and increased blood cell formation have been observed experimentally. Stimulation of protein and DNA synthesis (anabolic effect) has also been demonstrated.

Other probable effects of ginseng include improvement of lung function in patients with chronic respiratory conditions and support of the body’s intestinal flora.
