General measures

  • Nicotine restriction (refraining from tobacco use).
  • Review of permanent medication due topossible effect on the existing disease.

Vaccinations

The following vaccinations are advised, as infection can often lead to worsening of the present disease:

  • Flu vaccination
  • Hepatitis B vaccination
  • Pneumococcal vaccination

  • Regular medical checkups

Nutritional medicine

  • Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
  • Nutritional recommendations according to a mixed diet taking into account the disease at hand. This means, among other things:
    • A total of 5 servings of fresh vegetables and fruit daily (≥ 400 g; 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit).
    • High-fiber diet (whole grains, vegetables).
  • Observance of the following special dietary recommendations:
    • Studies have shown that when the diet is changed to low-protein (low protein, ie max 0.8 g/kg body weight / day) and gluten-free diet, the disease can be improved. Foods containing gluten are:
      • Wheat, rye, barley, (oats), spelt, spelt, einkorn, emmer, triticale, wild rice and products made from them, such as flour, pearl barley, semolina, flakes, groats, germ, bran, meal, bread and bakery products, rusks and pasta.
      • Grützwurst, breaded meat, fish sticks, nuggets, canned fish in spicy sauce.
      • Croquettes, potato products, ready meals including soups, sauces, flour sauces.
      • Yogurt with cereal content, fruit yogurts, cottage cheese, ice cream.
    • In advanced renal failure, 2-3 l of fluid should be consumed daily to be able to excrete urinary substances and avoid dehydration (lack of fluid).
    • Diet rich in:
      • Omega-3 fatty acids (once or twice a week fresh sea fish, i.e. fatty marine fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel; supplementation if necessary).
  • Selection of appropriate food based on the nutritional analysis
