The following are the most important diseases or complications that may be contributed to by goiter (goiter):
Respiratory system (J00-J99)
- Tracheomalacia (synonym: saber sheath trachea) – disease characterized by slackening of the trachea.
Endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90).
- Recurrent goiter – recurrence of thyroid enlargement.
Circulatory system (I00-I99)
- Upper influence stasis* (OES) – symptom in which venous return to the heart from the upper extremities and head is obstructed; manifests as congested swollen neck veins and arm veins.
Psyche – Nervous System (F00-F99; G00-G99).
- Horner’s symptomatology (Horner’s syndrome; Horner’s triad) – pupil constriction (miosis), drooping of the upper eyelid (ptosis), and an apparently sunken eyeball (pseudoenophthalmos).
Symptoms and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings not elsewhere classified (R00-R99).
- Dysphagia* (dysphagia).
- Dysphonia* (hoarseness)
- Stridor* (whistling breathing sound), inspiratory or dyspnea* (shortness of breath) – due to constriction of the trachea.
